Who Am I

From Lawyer to UX Designer: My Journey of Impact

The Struggle

My journey into UX design began out of frustration with outdated court processes. As a lawyer, I often found myself bogged down by the inefficiencies of having to physically go to court to file and process cases. It was time-consuming, stressful, and felt far behind the times.

One day, after yet another exhausting trip to file documents, I began thinking about how technology could streamline these processes. I was curious about how tech law could offer solutions to virtual filing and make the legal system more accessible. That's when I stumbled upon the world of design. I realised that design could be the key to creating user-friendly solutions that make people’s lives easier. This discovery excited me.

Determined to learn more, I dived into self-training. For four months, I spent countless sleepless nights watching YouTube tutorials, reading articles, and following industry experts. I attended six product design boot camps, each a month apart, and completed a six-month internship to truly grasp the creativity and problem-solving aspect of design.

First Opportunity

My first opportunity came with a startup in Nigeria, where we created a contactless digital business card. It was designed to help professionals share contact information easily without physical cards, which was especially useful in the post-pandemic world. The solution was a success, generating over 5,000 sales within just two weeks of launch. It was thrilling to see how something I helped design could have such an immediate and positive impact.

Since then, I have led, managed, and contributed to various design projects and freelance work, all aimed at improving people’s experiences and having impact in their lives. Each project has taught me valuable lessons about solving real-world problems through thoughtful design.

Transferrable Skill I Bring To The Table

Drawing upon my background in law, I bring a unique set of skills and perspectives to the field of UI/UX design. Just as in law, attention to detail, critical thinking, and effective communication are crucial in creating successful user experiences. The analytical mindset cultivated through legal practice enables me to approach design challenges with a strategic and problem-solving mindset.

Additionally, my experience in law has honed my ability to understand complex systems and regulations, allowing me to design interfaces that comply with legal requirements and ensure a seamless user experience. Moreover, my legal training has instilled in me a deep appreciation for empathy and understanding, which I apply in crafting user-centred designs that cater to the needs and aspirations of diverse audiences.
